The Republic of the Union of Myanmar Signs the Establishment Agreement of the IMC

On 18 June 2026, the Signing Ceremony for the Establishment Agreement of the International Mangrove Center (IMC) for the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was held online. H.E. U Hsan Oo, Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC) of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, signed the Agreement on behalf of the Government of Myanmar, making Myanmar the 21st signatory State.

During the ceremony, Minister U Hsan Oo stated that Myanmar has actively participated in the development of the IMC and has supported its establishment as a member of the “Friends of IMC”. He underscored that Myanmar attaches great importance to the conservation of mangroves and coastal wetlands and has continued to undertake efforts in mangrove conservation and restoration, as well as ecosystem management. Looking ahead, he expressed confidence that the IMC would serve as an important platform for international cooperation and contribute to addressing the challenges facing mangrove and wetland ecosystems.

Professor Bao Daming, Director General of the Interim Secretariat of the IMC, welcomed Myanmar and expressed appreciation for the Government of Myanmar, particularly the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, for its support throughout the process leading to the signing of the Agreement. He emphasized the IMC’s progress in promoting scientific and technical cooperation, capacity-building, knowledge sharing and partnership development since its establishment.. He noted that Myanmar’s participation would strengthen global cooperation and efforts in mangrove conservation, restoration and sustainable management.
