IMC Hosts Lecture on Mangrove Management in Panama and Global Initiatives

As part of the IMCs flagship International Mangrove Wetland Lecture Series, the IMC was honored to host Ms. Veronica Gonzalez as a guest lecturer, delivering an insightful hybrid session on UN System and Other Mangrove Initiatives and Panama's Mangrove Management.

Ms. Gonzalez previously spent over nine years at Panama's Ministry of Environment, where she focused on climate mitigation and forest carbon strategies in the Climate Change and Forestry Directorates. She also worked at the FAO Subregional Office for Central America, managing and overseeing development projects.

During the lecture, Ms. Gonzalez provided a comprehensive overview of Panamas national strategies for mangrove conservation, highlighting successful approaches to sustainable management, local community engagement, and national regulatory framework and governance. She also provided a comparative analysis of UN-led wetland and mangrove initiatives, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration, policy alignment, and capacity-building.

The International Mangrove Wetland Lecture Series is part of the IMCs mission to promote knowledge exchange and capacity-building in mangrove conservation, restoration, and wise and sustainable use worldwide.
